Having achieved its fundraising goal in just a year, the Green Bay Botanical Garden launched its $5.5 million project to construct a Grand Garden featuring an Amphitheater last October.  Now nearing completion, the project features 4 structures:  Amphitheater with Green Room, Overlook Arbor and Grand Staircase, Concessions Building with catering kitchen and restrooms, and a private event space in an adjacent Pavilion.  The project entailed design work with Somerville Architects & Engineers and landscape design firm Smith Group/JJR out of Madison.  General Contractor was Miron Construction.  Susan Garot, Executive Director of Green Bay Botanical Garden since 2008 worked with Garden board, staff and community leaders to bring the vision that was originally created in the mid-1980s to reality. Garot will share some of the trials and tribulations of the project and the future uses and goals for the new space.

Susan Garot has been the Executive Director of Green Bay Botanical Garden since 2008, and has helped grow the Garden in that time by adding buildings and gardens that have doubled its attendance as well as revenues.  Prior to that, she was CEO of Garot Hospitality, Inc. and developed and operated 4 hotels in the Green Bay and Milwaukee areas.  While hailing from Minnesota, she’s called Green Bay home since 1978 when she came to attend UW-GB, graduating with a B.S. in Management, emphasis in Non-Profit Organizations.  She’s volunteered for many non-profits in the Green Bay Community, including currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.
