Afternoon Tours

After lunch we will board buses for a tour of some of UW-Oshkosh's newest facilities.
Horizon Village, Sage Hall, and the Bio Digester.

Horizon Village:

Horizon Village is the first new residence hall constructed at UW Oshkosh in 40 years, which will help make room for students during a time of consistently rising enrollment. Plus, the suite-style hall, which will offer students apartment-like spaces with private bathrooms and living areas, is the first of its kind on campus. The $34 million residence hall, funded through student fees, will provide sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students housing.

In support of UW Oshkosh’s commitment to sustainability, Horizon Village is designed to meet a platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. The building includes eco-friendly elements, including a green roof, trash enclosure, geothermal ground-source heat pump for heating and cooling, heat recovery from Residence Life data center, geothermal hot water production and specialized bicycle storage.

Sage Hall:

Sage Hall, UW Oshkosh's first new academic building since 1971, opened for classes in fall 2011. The word “sage” has multiple meanings that lend themselves to an academic building that is energy efficient, including:

  • a mentor in spiritual and philosophical topics who is renowned for profound wisdom
  • having wisdom that comes with age and experience
  • aromatic fresh or dried gray-green leaves used widely as seasoning
  • any of various plants of the genus Salvia; a cosmopolitan herb

More than $5 million in private funds were raised in support of the four-story, 191,000-square-foot building, which took two years to construct.

Sage Hall Contains:

  • 27 state-of-the-art classrooms
  • Two lecture halls
  • 23 labs
  • Sage Café, which serves Starbucks coffee
  • Courtyard
  • Trading room to track global stocks and markets
  • Green roof with a raised garden

Sage Hall is the most environmentally friendly and efficient building of its kind in the state.  Designed for a gold LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council, the building supports the University’s mission to be sustainable through features that offer utilization of natural light, solar panels and a green roof. The sustainable features are expected to save $182,000 annually.
